Midlands Park Hotel
Located just 15-minutes from Midlands Park Hotel, Timahoe monastery was founded in the early 7th century by St Mochua Mac Lonain. Early historical reference state that a church was burned here in 919 while there was a murder in the doorway of another church in 1069.
Timahoe is a complete tower, though without floors or ladders. It has one of the finest four-order Romanesque doorways in Ireland, with elaborately carved and decorated with interlace, human heads, chevrons and capitals. It is unique in round tower architecture and rises almost 30 metres high and is more than 17 metres wide at its base. Its walls are nearly 2 metres thick.
