Emo Court is magnificent example of the neo-classical style, designed by architect James Gandon in 1790 for John Dawson, the first Earl of Portarlington.  During the middle of this century, it was owned by the Jesuits and it was then acquired and extensively restored by Mr Cholmeley Harrison in the 1960s. The house and gardens were taken into state ownership in 1994. We recommend you enjoy a guided tour of the house which is open from March to late September before relaxing in its charming tearoom where you can enjoy warm drinks and treats.

35 hectares of landscaped grounds, beautiful gardens and parklands surround Emo Court House which were first laid out in the 18th century and contain formal lawns, a lake and woodland walk with fine trees and shrubs and the perfect setting for a stroll in the sunshine or a family picnic and can be enjoyed all year round. Enjoy a picturesque 2.5k walk around the lake which is a popular choice with all ages, the kiddies will love to stop and take a rest and feed the ducks.
