SOLAS Eco Garden Shop

Ireland’s first and only Eco Garden Centre and Food Court is located in Portarlington Co, Laois, just 17km away from us here at the Midlands Park Hotel. The SOLAS Eco garden centre is located in what was once Ireland’s largest steel fabrication factory and has been brought back to life as a centre for sustainable gardening, food and education.

The SOLAS Eco Garden Centre in Portarlington includes an indoor 22,000 sq. ft. garden shop and a 4-acre outdoor area constructed from recycled 40ft containers featuring a food court, a retractable roof greenhouse and 40ft Light tower.

Farmers Market

Each Saturday morning from 10am – 2pm, SOLAS hosts one of the largest and best farmers’ markets in Ireland with 28 stalls featuring local fruit and vegetables, bread, honey, cakes, fish and an amazing array of arts and crafts.

Opened in May of 2021, SOLAS has been featured in The Irish Times, RTE’s Nationwide, and Newstalk’s Bobby Kerr show. SOLAS acts as a regional hub including a range of training courses for gardening, crafts and energy efficiency. SOLAS in partly powered by on site solar panels and includes a number of electric car charging stations.

It’s also a great place for the families to visit with events and courses every weekend and seasonal events during Easter, the Summer, Halloween & Christmas.
